Lammergeyer, the bearded vulture, a chromolithograph from the natural history set Animate Creation, published in 1898 by Selmar Hess in New York. The plate title is lettered "Lammergeyer" beneath the image, with the publisher's imprint in the lower margin.

Three of the large raptors sit on a weathered rock in a high mountain gorge, one in the foreground preening with its back to the viewer, a second standing at the left with a pale rust-colored breast, and a young dark bird perched on a crag at the upper right. Behind them snow-capped peaks glow in the light, with the cold gray-brown of the rock giving the scene an alpine feeling. The color is built up in the smooth, saturated tones of late-century chromolithography.

Louis Prang (1824 to 1909) was a leading American printer, lithographer and publisher, and Animate Creation is an example of the color printing for which his firm was known.
