Pied wagtail, a color plate from Birds of Britain by J. Lewis Bonhote, published in 1907. The print shows the wagtail on a patch of damp ground at the edge of a stream, with no lettering inside the picture.

The bird walks along a sandy bank in profile, its head turned to the left, with a black throat and breast, a white face, a gray back and wings with pale edges, and the long black tail pointing upward and to the right. Behind it the water and a bed of broad pale-green leaves give a soft, naturalistic setting. The plate was printed in color, with a wide plain margin around the image.

Bonhote was an English ornithologist, born in London and educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, who also served as private secretary to the Governor of the Bahamas in 1897.
