Antique Merlin Falcon with Prey Print by Lilian M. Medland, 1908

A striking original antique ornithological plate depicting a Merlin Falcon standing over a captured small bird.

Unlike a conventional perched portrait, this composition presents the falcon in a dramatic behavioural study. The bird bends over its prey, allowing the compact form, powerful talons and finely rendered plumage of the Merlin to be seen in detail. Lilian M. Medland’s sensitive monochrome treatment gives the scene both scientific interest and strong decorative presence.

The plate was created for Charles Stonham’s important natural-history publication The Birds of the British Islands, illustrated by Lilian M. Medland and published in London by E. Grant Richards in the early 20th century.

The landscape format and dynamic subject make this print especially suitable for a library, study, country-house interior or collection of antique ornithological and sporting art.

This is an original antique print dating from 1908. It is over 100 years old and is not a modern reproduction.
