What the condition grades mean
Excellent
Bright and clean, with no faults worth mentioning.
Very good
Only light signs of age, such as faint toning.
Good
Normal signs of age for a sheet of this period: toning, some foxing, small marks or neat old repairs.
Fair
Clear faults such as staining, tears or repairs, priced to match.

Every fault we see is written in the condition note, and the whole sheet is shown uncropped in the photos.

The agouti and the paca on one plate from Pierre Auguste Joseph Drapiez's Dictionnaire Classique des Sciences Naturelles, published in 1845. The sheet is an engraving with original hand color, and the animals are lettered below: "1. Chloromys acuti, Agouti" and "2. Coelogenys subniger, Paca".

The agouti at the top is drawn in profile in golden-yellow and olive brown, with small ears, a pink hindquarter and slim legs, walking over a tuft of ground. The paca below is a stockier brown animal with rows of pale spots along its flank and a white underside, standing on grassy rock with small plants at its feet.

Both are large rodents of Central and South America, and the plate reflects the work's aim of illustrating the animals of the world in a compact reference.
