Four botanical chromolithographs of North American wild plants, from Thomas Meehan's The Native Flowers and Ferns of the United States in Their Botanical, Horticultural, and Popular Aspects, published by L. Prang and Company of Boston in 1879. Each is a full-color plate on its own sheet, with the volume and plate number at the top and the Latin name lettered below.

The four plates are lettered Aquilegia chrysantha, a yellow columbine with its spurred flowers; Pachysandra procumbens, the Allegheny spurge, with mottled leaves and a pale spike of flowers; Helonias bullata, the swamp pink, with a dense head of pink flowers on a leafless stem beside its rosette of leaves; and Carex stricta, a tufted sedge with narrow leaves and brown seed spikes. The plants are shown with their roots, and small numbered details of the flower or seed are drawn beside several of them.

The work was issued by Prang, the Boston firm that was among the best-known American color printers of its day, and its plates range from showy wildflowers to sedges.
