Two plates of Arctic shellfish from Paul Gaimard's Voyage en Islande et au Groenland, published in Paris in 1842, original hand-colored prints. They are sold as a pair of sheets: one lettered "Bivalve du Groënland" with the Linnaean name Astarte groenlandica, and one of various Modiolaria.

The first plate shows the Greenland cockle in several views, with small specimens in rows at the top, a shell with its fleshy foot extended in the middle, and the large paired valves, inside and out, at the bottom. The second plate arranges a series of Modiolaria species, including M. modiolus, M. discors, M. laevis and M. pisum, in rows by size, from the large mussel at the top to tiny specimens below, shown from several angles.

Gaimard's expedition of 1835 was sent to find the lost Arctic expedition of Jean de Blosseville and became a survey of Iceland and Greenland. The shell plates were drawn by Louis Bévalet and lithographed by J. Bernard in Paris.
