A pointer flushing a mallard, a vintage color print by Paul Wood titled "Pointer and Mallard," signed in pencil and issued in New York in the 1930s. A printed copyright line at the upper right gives New York, U.S.A.
A white pointer with chestnut patches stands rigid in tall golden reeds, head raised and eyes fixed on a mallard that rises above it with wings spread, showing the green head and blue wing patch. Two pollarded willows rise from the left behind the dog, and a pale bay and a distant shore close the view under a soft sky. The color is warm, built from yellow and brown in the grasses and blue-gray in the water and sky, with a blind plate mark around the image.
Prints of this kind belong to the tradition of American sporting art, made for hunters and dog owners.
