These prints are from "Les Plantes à Feuillage Coloré," specifically from the second volume, published in Paris in 1880, with J. Rothschild as the publisher. Each print showcases a different plant species with distinct variegated foliage:

1. The first print shows a leaf of the Phormium tenax, commonly known as New Zealand flax. The leaf is long and arching, with a green base color and prominent red marginal stripes. The central vein is also red, and the texture of the leaf is suggested through fine parallel lines indicating the fibrous nature of the flax.

2. The second print illustrates a leaf of the Maranta leuconeura, also known as prayer plant. The broad, oval leaf has a lush green background with a unique pattern of white streaks following the leaf veins. The back of the leaf and the stem are tinged with a reddish-pink hue, providing a striking contrast to the green and white of the upper side.

3. The third print features a leaf of Zea japonica, which might be a historical reference to a variety of Japanese maize or another ornamental plant with similar foliar characteristics. The leaf is elongated with a wavy edge and exhibits a bright green color with variegated stripes of a lighter green-yellow hue. The veins are a soft pink, which matches the delicate edges of the leaf.

The precision and detail of the prints suggest they were created for botanical study or for an audience with a keen interest in horticulture. Each leaf is presented with a naturalistic elegance, highlighting the artistic beauty in the diverse patterns and colors of plant foliage.
