Good
Normal signs of age for a sheet of this period: toning, some foxing, small marks or neat old repairs.

Every fault we see is written in the condition note, and the whole sheet is shown uncropped in the photos.

A small perching bird in bright colors, a hand-colored lithograph by Carl Wilhelm Hahn from Vögel aus Asien, Africa, America & Neuholland in Abbildungen nach der Natur, dated about 1820. The plate is lettered "Iste Lieferung 3te Tafel" at the upper right, "Tanagra Tatao. Linn. Mas." and "Die Paradies-Merle. Mann." below the bird, and "nach der Natur gezeichnet von C.W. Hahn" at the lower right.

The male bird perches in profile on a short cut branch against an open cream ground inside a ruled border. It has a yellow-green head, a black back and a white throat patch, with blue wing feathers and a band of red-orange and yellow across the rump before the black tail. The coloring is laid in flat washes over the lithographic outline.

Tanagers of this kind are birds of tropical America, and the plate belongs to the first part of Hahn's illustrated series of birds from four continents, which names its birds in both Latin and German on every sheet.
