Leopard Seal, Antique Marine Mammal Chromolithograph, 1894

DESCRIPTION

This striking chromolithograph shows leopard seals resting on coastal rocks, with open sea and seabirds completing the scene. The composition captures both mass and fluidity, characteristic of the finest marine plates from the period.

Published in 1894 as part of The Royal Natural History, the plate is attributed to P. J. Smit. The soft coastal palette and balanced composition make it equally suitable for coastal interiors or scientific collections.
