Set of Three Dragonfly Lithographs by Richard Tümpel, Germany, 1908

Description:

A superb set of three original color lithographs from Richard Tümpel's monumental work Die Geradflügler Mitteleuropas, published in Gotha by F.E. Perthes in 1908. These finely executed plates depict some of Central Europe's most impressive dragonfly species with remarkable scientific precision and decorative elegance.

The present group comprises Tafel VIII, IX, and X, illustrating Anax formosus, Aeschna pratensis, Aeschna mixta, Aeschna cyanea, Libellula pedemontana, Aeschna juncea, Aeschna grandis, Aeschna affinis, Aeschna rufescens, and Aeschna viridis. Male and female specimens are carefully identified, while enlarged abdominal details further emphasize their taxonomic significance.

Printed in rich chromolithography, these works embody the final flourishing of European natural history illustration before photographic reproduction became widespread. Their refined compositions, luminous colors, and balanced arrangements make them equally attractive to collectors of scientific material and designers seeking sophisticated botanical and natural themes for contemporary interiors.

Sold unframed. Framed images are for inspiration only and may not always represent the exact scale of the artworks.
