The Canadian horse, a color lithograph from the Dutch edition of the "Paardenrassen Kunstalbum" ("Album of Horse Breeds"), after a painting by the Dutch artist Otto Eerelman, whose signature appears in the lower right corner. The album was published at Zutphen by Schillemans & Van Belkum, starting around 1898 and issued in installments of four prints. The plates were lithographed by J. L. Goffart, and the descriptive texts were by E. A. L. Quadekker. The sheet is a large one, about 59 by 44.5 cm, and the album as a whole numbers 41 plates.

The horse stands in profile facing right, a buckskin with a dark mane, tail and lower legs, on a patch of rough ground in front of two weathered wooden outbuildings and a cloudy sky. The pose, a stallion standing square to the viewer, follows the usual formula for breed portraits of the period.

Eerelman, born in Groningen and trained in Paris and Brussels, settled in The Hague and became well known for his horses and dogs, including commissions from the Dutch royal family.
