Title: Antique Pedicularis Botanical Chromolithographs, Set of 3, Germany 1897

Description:

A beautifully coordinated set of three original antique botanical chromolithographs published in Germany in 1897 as part of the celebrated Atlas der Alpenflora (Atlas of Alpine Flora). Issued by the German and Austrian Alpine Association, these finely executed plates depict three remarkable Alpine species of the genus Pedicularis (Lousewort), renowned for their unusual flowers and delicately divided fern-like foliage.

Produced under the scientific editorship of Dr. Palla of the University of Graz, the illustrations were based on original botanical studies by the distinguished Austrian artist Anton Hartinger and reproduced using the advanced photolithographic process developed by Nenke & Ostermaier of Dresden. The publication remains among the finest botanical atlases devoted to the flora of the European Alps.

The set includes the following species:

Pedicularis recutita (Blunt-beaked Lousewort)

Pedicularis rosea (Rose Lousewort)

Pedicularis oederi (Oeder's Lousewort)

These three plates beautifully demonstrate the diversity within the Pedicularis genus, ranging from delicate rose-pink blossoms to striking golden-yellow flowers. Native to alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and high mountain pastures, these species are among the most distinctive wildflowers of the European Alps and are highly appreciated by botanists, alpine gardeners, and collectors of natural history illustrations.

Each print retains its original German title together with habitat and flowering information, providing valuable historical and scientific context. Their refined compositions, soft chromolithographic coloring, and botanical accuracy make them equally suitable as scientific illustrations and decorative works of art.

Displayed together as a horizontal trio or in a vertical arrangement, the prints create an elegant botanical display. Wide ivory museum mats paired with slim walnut, bronze, or black frames beautifully enhance their subtle colors, making them ideal for libraries, studies, mountain homes, country houses, or contemporary interiors.

This is a set of three original antique prints. Any framed or interior images are for inspiration only. The prints are sold unframed.
